As they walked back to the truck, their way bright and easy from the lights the crazies had given them and from the first rays of dawn, Elliot wondered if that was it. Had the crazies chased them all this way just to tell them that one word? And what the hell did it mean?

The crazies had simply walked off into the night. He and Evajean just stood there, not talking, too stunned to discuss anything.

Moroni. He had never heard it before, had no idea what it could be, but it was another piece in the puzzle of events the plague had brought. Asking Evajean about it could wait until they were back on the road. He was thankful for the trip. He needed an achievable goal, one that made immediate sense, that had a purpose. They were going to Salt Lake City — and then would decide what to do next.

Evajean had found the dog. She’d ducked back into the warehouse with a flashlight, and emerged a few minutes later, Hope struggling under one arm.

They went back to the truck and hopped inside, Elliot behind the wheel and Evajean at his side with Hope settling on her lap. Elliot knew he should get some sleep, but sleep could be put off until there was more road between them and…
